Tis’ the season to be jolly…with friends, family and fun! And ultimately lots of food and drinks and time in the kitchen! Woohoo!

Yet some of you might be a little worried as it is often the season for indulgence and you may have been working hard focusing on balancing your body and health. Often times the holidays becomes a time when we loose sight of our health goals and fully give in to all the temptation that the holiday gatherings and parties have to offer! Is it possible to maintain a balance of social gatherings and indulgence while still honoring your body, efforts and dedication to your health?

Of course! And that balance will look a little different for everybody yet we all get to embrace the holidays as we reunite with loved ones and experience the holiday spirit!

Here are 3 tips from next week’s workshop that you can incorporate right away!

  • Keep Up With Your Fitness Routine! As we all generally get extra busy during the sample11holiday season, sometimes our exercise  routine may fall off our schedule with out us even being completely aware of it! By keeping your fitness routine solid, it will help you maintain a healthy metabolism, vibrant energy and balance in blood sugar

  • Bring Tasty Healthy Side Dishes to Gatherings. Sometimes when you are a guest in someone’s home it’s a lot more challenging to eat the way you are used to eating to suit your goals. And usually the only options are on the table and you may be concerned about offending the cook if you don’t eat! If you find that’s the case, enjoy small portions and don’t be afraid to pass on dishes you know your body won’t do well with. Contribute health and love to the table by bringing a tasty nutritious dish! Below are some recipe ideas…

  • Store your yummy left overs safely… Plastic containers are high in chemicals like BPA that leach into your food. BPA, like other chemicals in plastic is a synthetic estrogen that further throws off your hormones, encourages fat storage and is toxic to our reproductive system! An easy solution is to use glass containers! PS.. A nice set of glass containers make a great gift too!

Recipe ideas:

  • Appetizer:

Cuke-tizers

Thickly sliced organic cucumber, topped with goat cheese, basil leaf and a half or slice of organic cherry tomato. Sprinkle a dash of Himalayan pink sea salt! Always a hit and easy to make!

  • Super Side:

Butternut Squash Chunks

Ingredients: 2 Cups of Butternut Squash (or any winter squash), cut into 1 inch cubes; 3 tbs of extra virgin olive oil; 1 tsp of organic juice.

Optional: Combine 4 tsp minced fresh ginger, 1/2 tsp cinnamon and 2 tsp of honey with the olive oil. -OR- feta cheese, chopped fresh rosemary & 1/2 small onion sliced thin and steamed with squash.

Directions: Steam 1 inch cubes of squash for 7 minutes. Squash is done when tender yet still firm enough to hold shape. Then toss in bowl with the olive oil, OJ and the option you chose.

This is nutrient dense and low in calories (which I never count!) and quick to make! This recipe is derived from The Worlds Healthiest Foods webpage

Hangover Elixir!

According to a woman named Peggy Kotsopoulos, this drink is great before those holiday beverages! It makes sense being that it’s packed with electrolytes which help replenish the minerals lost from alcohol and fresh mint and lime help to rid the body of toxins.

Ingredients: Coconut water, chlorella, fresh lime juice, fresh mint, and water. Blend that baby up and let me know if it works!
