Does Your Food Affect Your Mood?

Great question… What do you think? Do you think that fatigue, brain fog, moodiness, irritability, anxiety, etc., have anything to do with what you are eating??

Of course! And just the same, so does excitement, joy, pleasure, enthusiasm….

Do you ever feel butterflies in your stomach when you’re excited or nervous? Or how about one of those gut feelings where you can literally feel your emotions in your belly?

Our brains and our guts are directly connected to each other via the Vegas nerve, which is one of the largest nerves in the body! The enteric nervous system, made up of a hundred million neurons is embedded within the entire lining of the gastrointestinal system.  Some scientists call the gut the second brain! It even contains the chemical neurotransmitters necessary for our brain to function!

So when we are eating toxic foods, processed foods, foods that our bodies have sensitivities or intolerances to, high levels of pesticides, etc., we are creating disruption and inflammation in our GI tract which is directly communicating with the brain. This reflects in how we think and feel on levels that affect our entire lives!

Hormones are another way of how we eat affects our moods and energy. The food we choose to nourish ourselves with directly influences our endocrine glands and the hormones they produce. Clearly our hormones affect the way we think and feel!

Besides, if your body doesn’t feel good, you’re not going to be very cheery are you? When your body feels drained, impaired or sluggish, it’s harder to be motivated, get excited and enthused, and just be in a good mood!

How we feed ourselves strongly influences our mood and energy and chronic disruption in our digestion affects our outlook, productivity and ultimately our relationships!
